Inclusion History Videos

These videos represent a history of the ideas and thought-leaders who have helped develop and shepherd inclusive practice for the last 50 years.

The categories below represent an ‘introduction’ to the struggle for inclusion – as recorded on video. Keep in mind that technology has changed dramatically, thus for the early years there is relatively little, of limited ‘quality’ – but important in recounting our stories. This collection will continue to grow. Beyond video, there is a more extensive document/book selection – most of which is free to download. PIONEERS, ROOTS & FOUNDATIONS OF INCLUSION

The people who led the struggles to begin the inclusion movement were wide ranging. CIRCLE OF FRIENDS VIDEOS

The Circle of Friends is about Relationships – and is the foundation of our work. These videos capture a slice of some of the early developments – beginning with Judith Snow – and progressing with various networks and organizations over the years. Videos from 1984 to current times – including videos from the Hamilton Wentworth Roman Catholic School Board – the 1st board in the world to welcome ALL students in regular classrooms.

JUDITH SNOW VIDEOS

Most of the early work on Circles, MAPS and PATH was with children – in schools, and this collection reflects the growth and learnings on video – beginning in1984. A tremendous education resource.

MY LIFE MY CHOICE VIDEOS

My Life, My Choice is a DVD with stories of 7 adults who live as participating citizens in their community with support – because they have complex disability issues. The stories were recorded in Windsor, Ontario. Windsor Essex Brokerage for Personal Supports (WEBPS) provides the support framework for their individuals and their families to live full lives. LITERACY, SCIL, BEAT THE STREET VIDEOS

Simultaneous to our learning learning about Circles and MAPS, Marsha and Jack were deeply engaged in the Literacy movement – based at Frontier College. The SCIL (Student Centered Individualized Learning – 1989) program evolved, and one of the programs was Beat the Street – founded by Tracy LeQuyere and Rich Parsons. Marsha and Tracy did many workshops together. Tracy (now Justin Page C.M.) had a huge impact on literacy with extensive media/tv coverage.

BOB WILLIAMS POETRY & LABELLING BLUES

Bob Williams is a brilliant poet. He was also the Commissioner on Developmental Disabilities in Washington. Currently he is the Administration for Community Living Deputy Commissioner, Administration on Disabilities and Director, Independent Living Administration in Washington. But here – Bob the poet reading his own poetry, along with his friend, David Hasbury. Also Labelling Blues by Greg Hoskins & the Stickpeople.
